This festival's quality was provided by London's 'The Society', who had transported themselves to France in order to participate in 'Litto Rock', as one of the twelve pre-selected groups. Onstage, as ever, they gave it their best.
Yesterday, from high upon the sea wall, just after midday, the first guitar chords struck those bodies below, occupied as usual with gaining a beach tan. But they would have been foolish to leave the sand; unlike last year, when the weather had prevented use of the Ruben Place podium, this year's on-stage artists were able to look down from the promenade across the seafront, dominating a vast area, where crowds quickly gathered.
For this, the show's second year, the organisers had selected The Society from the earlier Jad-Rock' music festival, where they had previously appeared alongside bands from Northern France (remaining slots were allocated to some of these, as well as a few who had sent in cassettes). When approached, the London collective did not hesitate in agreeing to appear.
And what a show it was! From hard rock to jazz; from progressive rock to 'le rock français', The Society's repertoire drew on a diverse range of styles. After the show, even fellow musicians from every other band amongst the audience were rightly praising the quality of the music, the band's stage presence, and their creativity they had truly provided a wonderful climax to this festival of decibels.
