'A highly expectant crowd eagerly anticipated the appearance of 'The Society' at Soho's premier music venue 'The Acoustic Café'
It was well worth the wait as Simon and Joe (two of the band's usual four members) launched into an explosive set of hits from their back catalogue. Personal highlights included 'Sigmund Freud' and 'A Russian Piece'
'The Progress Suite' was an ambitious attempt to chronologically link five songs beginning with '1933', with the boys using their seer-like qualities to take us through to a foreboding future. Despite Simon's insistence, the crowd seemed not to notice the 'deliberate mistakes' in 'Where's the One for Me?' - instead it merely added to the ambience of the evening. 'The Society' were warmly received by a relaxed but enthusiastic crowd
The evening came to an end after 14 great songs, but not before promises of another appearance in the not too distant future. Thankfully 'The Society' have produced a CD for all those who either missed or want to re-live the evening in stereo in the comfort of their own home. However, to hear 'The Society' at their very best, be sure to attend their next gig and write it in your diary when the date is announced.'
